RWDI
RWDI is an engineering company that tests scale replica buildings against natural wind conditions to see if they are sustainable. For this reason all the model making had to be very precise to give accurate results. During my time at RWDI i had to make surrounding, cumulative and target buildings. I also had to insert probes and brass tubes into the buildings to detect how much wind was coming into contact with that part of the building.
skills that i developed involved:
- Making accurate scale models of target, cumulative and surrounding buildings from architectural blueprints
- Structuring and supporting of large MDF boards / bases
- Tapping 3D printed models with brass
- Inserting sensory probes into models
- Adding small-scale details (e.g. trees, fences, bus stops)
Landscaping to scale
MC Modelmaking - Display case lips
Whilst working at MC model making i was asked to cast, cleanup and spray paint 140 pairs of lips for a display case. When making the lips I had to ensure that each one was the same and finished to an excellent degree. The time scale that i was given to finish the lips was very short, therefore i had to make sure I was working quick and efficiently.
The skills that I used during this project included:
- casting in fast cast resin
- cleaning up using sandpaper and a scalpel
- spray painting using a spray gun

gluing the pieces together
fibreglassing
hot wiring

Dr strange
Dr Strange was the first prop making job that I worked on. Although this was only a days work experience i feel like I gained a lot of knowledge about the ins and outs of working in the film industry.
During my time on this film i made the background props including bound books and scrolls from the library scene.
