Making the Fortnight Llamas

To make the body of the llamas first we had to make a prototype of the shape then cast and mould numerous ones from there. This ensures that all of the models look exactly the same and we can produce them quickly and effectively.

To make the prototype we used a hot wire to carve the main shape of the llama then covered it in a thin layer of epoxy resin to give it strength. Then we made lots of identical triangular shapes to make the scales and glued them to the main base of the llama.
We made the body separate from the head tail and legs to ensure it could be pulled out of the mould.

Once we had the main shape of the prototype made we then covered half of it in thickened silicon. Once the silicon had set we used fibre glass to make a hard shell making sure we added a lot of keys to help align the mould once it had been taken apart. We them repeated this process on the other side.

Once the mould had been made, we lubricated it and used fibreglass and resin to cast the body. When the cast had been pulled out of the mould we added a wooden base which was used to secure the legs to the underside.

All the same techniques were used for the head and tail of the llamas.

once the whole thing was assembled we sanded it and used car body filler to fill any holes and blemishes. Then the llama was primed and spray painted using custom colours to give it the fortnite feel.
