Steampunk inspired animatronic wings
As part of my final university project i designed and made these steampunk wings. The context behind creating these wings was for an action film, therefore i had a lot of logistics to think about.
These wings open and close using a gear mechanism on the back. This not only made the wings appear more realistic but also added a quirky steampunk vibe.
I also had to think about the actor who was going to be wearing the costume prop. For this reason i used the lightest materials possible and used a heavy duty comfortable harness to strap them on.

Initial design
During this process I had to think about every step that i was going to take when making the wing and create appropriate designs to influence my making process.
I thought of a few different mechanism ideas so i could test each one and come to a conclusion of the best mechanism for the job.
